In June, the Sui Bridge incentive program kicked off, inviting the community to test the Sui Bridge Testnet implementation by transferring assets to and from Ethereum Sepolia. Over 184,000 transactions were completed using Sui Bridge, helping to identify and fix bugs, enhance features, and improve the overall user experience.

Sui Bridge, launching in October, provides a native means to securely transfer assets between Ethereum and Sui. As a crucial piece of infrastructure, Sui Bridge enhances integration with the greater Web3 industry, enabling seamless asset transfers for users across major ecosystems.

The individuals who participated in rigorously testing the Sui Bridge helped to ensure it meets the highest standards of performance, security, and usability. Bug reports and other input were meticulously reviewed, leading to refinements that will make Sui Bridge highly resilient. Eligible participants can now claim the incentive program rewards from the Sui Bridge website. While rewards for this incentive program will soon be distributed to participants, efforts to improve Sui Bridge will carry on and community reporting of bugs is still encouraged.

Areas of focus

Throughout the program, we focused on several key areas:

  • Functionality: Ensuring smooth and reliable transaction processing.
  • Stress: Evaluating performance under high transaction volumes.
  • Security: Testing for vulnerabilities to ensure the highest level of security.
  • Usability: Gathering feedback on user experience to enhance interface design.
  • Governance: Conducting governance fire drills with validators to ensure changing the bridge configuration runs correctly.

Key learnings and insights

The feedback and data gathered from the community have been instrumental in the refinement of Sui Bridge. Some of the bugs identified include issues such as allowing bridging zero amount, frontend performance issues, and frontend interface improvements, all of which have been resolved. Significant improvements in frontend performance have been achieved by using a custom indexer to serve the data, thanks to the insights provided by our testers.

Additionally, it has been noticed that the gas cost of bridging assets back to Ethereum is higher than desired due to the number of signature verifications required. A solution to reduce these costs is actively being developed for future Sui Bridge releases.

What's next for Sui Bridge

Looking ahead, the upcoming Mainnet launch of Sui Bridge is an exciting development on the horizon. This milestone will bring a secure, cost-effective native bridge to Sui, allowing users to easily transfer assets between Sui and Ethereum.

Future plans include ongoing development of Sui Bridge, including more assets and eventually, integrations with other chains.  Continuous community engagement will play a crucial role in enhancing Sui Bridge. Stay tuned for more updates on community initiatives, and thank you for playing an instrumental part of the journey!
