George Danezis

Co-Founder and Chief Scientist, Mysten Labs

George Danezis is the Co-Founder and Chief Scientist at Mysten Labs. He brings more than 20 years of experience in cryptography, security engineering, and decentralized systems and nearly 3 years of professional experience at Meta, where he served as a Research Scientist at Novi Financial, designing privacy-preserving payment protocols for the Diem blockchain.

Prior to Meta, George spent over a decade as a Professor of Security and Privacy Engineering at University College London (UCL), leading research on distributed systems, anonymity protocols, and blockchain security. He has also served as a Faculty Fellow at The Alan Turing Institute and as an Advisor to Vega Protocol, focusing on decentralized finance security. 

George holds a Ph.D. in Computer Security from the University of Cambridge, where his research on anonymous communications and distributed security protocols was funded by the Newton Trust and the Cambridge-MIT Institute.
