Main Takeaways

  • Sui tunnels processed 40,614,180 transactions per second in a live, high-stress test at Sui Basecamp in Singapore, surpassing the 20 million TPS target and the July 4 record to show the network's capacity for AI agents and machine commerce.
  • The extreme throughput was achieved using Sui tunnels—programmable offchain state and payment channels that provide high throughput while settling securely and verifiably to Sui mainnet.
  • The demonstration was led by Adeniyi Abiodun, Chief Product Officer and Co-Founder at Mysten Labs, and verified in real-time by independent auditor CertiK.

Singapore, October 7, 2026 – Sui tunnels processed 40,614,180 transactions per second (TPS), settled on Sui mainnet in a live, high-stress speed test, beating its own 20 million target and easily surpassing its July 4 record of over 6 million. The test was conducted on the Summit Stage at Sui Basecamp, Sui's annual flagship conference held this year alongside Token2049 Singapore, and was designed to prove the network's resilience and speed under the extreme capacity demands of AI agents and machine commerce.

40,614,180 TPS was achieved via Sui tunnels, which were introduced during the previous record-setting livestream on July 4, 2026. Similar to Lightning Network’s offchain payment channels, Sui tunnels settle to Sui mainnet when closed. Every closed tunnel is mutually cosigned and independently verifiable onchain, combining high throughput with cryptographic proof that no transaction can be tampered with. Unlike Lightning’s channels, Sui tunnels are programmable, meaning they allow for a much wider range of activities than just payments. Participants and spectators were invited to log into an explorer built specifically for the event, where users and AI agents alike opened more than ten thousand tunnels in different application categories, from chat to games to payments, all gaslessly and offchain. While the tunnels in today’s demonstration focused on those categories, Sui provides the primitives so builders can design their own tunnels to suit whatever they need.

The test was run by Adeniyi Abiodun, Chief Product Officer and Co-Founder at Mysten Labs, the original contributor to Sui. CertiK, a web3 security leader serving as independent auditor, will examine all associated data, including proofs, execution logs, journals and supporting evidence, and publish a report in the coming days.

“As blockchain infrastructure continues to scale, transparent and independently verifiable performance measurements will become increasingly important,” said Yuannan Yang, Director of Security Engineering at CertiK. “Providing an objective basis for these results helps build trust in the infrastructure supporting next-generation applications, both within the Sui ecosystem and beyond.”

From 6 million to 40 million TPS

The Basecamp result is more than 6 times the 6,086,766 TPS record Sui set on July 4. Both were measured inside Sui tunnels.

"In an agentic economy, Sui doesn't need to process every interaction. It needs to be the trust layer for all of them," said Adeniyi Abiodun. "Think of Sui as a court. Agents agree on the rules when they open a tunnel and reach a conclusion when they settle. In between, the court stays out of their business. When there's a dispute, Sui resolves it automatically and transparently. Agents get privacy and speed without giving up verifiability."

At 40 million TPS, onchain gas fees would cripple agent commerce. Tunnels need just two transactions, one to open and one to close, which brings intermediate costs close to zero while enabling privacy and offline use. During the test, more than 10,000 tunnels opened on Sui mainnet within seconds of each other.

Live from Singapore

The event took place on the Summit Stage at Sui Basecamp in Marina Bay Sands, where audience members watched live and online. A special contest was run concurrently, with both live and digital attendees invited to make their closest guess to the ultimate TPS milestone.

“Sui is built for the moment when millions of AI agents are transacting every day,” said Abiodun. No market in the world needs 6 million transactions per second, let alone 40 million:  people just don't move that fast. Agents do.”
