The new network set out to improve upon existing blockchain technology, combining a highly performant compute environment with security, verifiability, and resilience. As we reach Sui's second anniversary, the swell has grown into a tsunami. Sui's first year saw infrastructure and builder activity, setting the stage for rapid growth in the second year. Metrics ramped up significantly, with one case in point being active accounts increasing 10 times in Sui's second year.  Of particular note, Sui became the chain for BTCfi, with new opportunities for users to leverage Bitcoin in DeFi. In 2025, the various forms of BTC bridged to Sui more than doubled.  Another huge development was the launch of [Walrus](https://www.walrus.xyz/). Although an entirely separate network focused on storage, the combination of Sui and Walrus leads to powerful programmable data use cases. In its first year it introduced zkLogin and Deepbook, and posted metrics such as 65 million transactions in a single day. [Babylon Labs and Lombard Protocol](https://blog.sui.io/babylon-labs-lombard-protocol-cubist-bitcoin-lbtc/) jointly announce a strategic initiative to integrate Bitcoin with Sui, inaugurating the network's BTCfi era, vastly increasing liquidity potential. **November 25, 2024** **January 6, 2025** Just three months after hitting $1 billion in TVL, Sui reaches [over $2 billion TVL](https://blog.sui.io/2-billion-tvl-milestone-defi/). This achievement is testament to the many DeFi protocols offering innovative features and making it easy to onboard new users.
